What is Albinism?
A genetic condition affecting melanin production

Albinism is a rare, non-contagious, genetically inherited condition present at birth. It results in a lack of pigmentation in the hair, skin, and eyes, causing vulnerability to the sun and bright light.

People with albinism often have vision problems and need sun protection to prevent skin damage.

Types of Albinism

  • Oculocutaneous albinism (OCA) - affects skin, hair, and eyes
  • Ocular albinism - primarily affects the eyes
  • Hermansky-Pudlak syndrome - albinism with bleeding disorders and other issues
